Worthwhile Cause of the Day: If you’re looking to do something good for a change, the NGO A Human Right, which believes “equal, universal, uninhibited Internet access is a human right,” is in the process of raising $150k in order to purchase “the most capable communications satellite put into space” so they can use it to provide poor people with free Internet service.

Although we believe in free Internet for the planet, there are some realities to face: like paying the rent.

We will offer a diminished service for free to everyone, while allowing telecommunications companies to purchase and re-sell high speed bandwidth. Our goal is to not only get everyone online, but also facilitate the growth of an industry.

More info on the organization and their plan can be found here and here.

Seriously? -____- I’m pretty sure the last thing people in poverty want is internet access. There are millions of people who don’t even have a clean water supply. Homeless people won’t benefit from free internet if they don’t even have a place to live, let alone, a computer to enjoy their “human rights” of having free internet access. “Join us in continuing to improve what it means to be human”? Just…no. It seems like a nice gesture but there are WAY more problems and better ways of donation the human race can help with than contributing to internet access worldwide. Trust me, I think less fortunate people can live without having a facebook account, viewing porn, and going to icanhascheezburger.com.
